Specific objectives
Apart from ploughing back into the community through targeted Community development programs, the initiative has the following specific objectives;
- Re engineer a youth and women driven, market led smallholder agricultural production
- Establish agriculture based cottage industries
- Create employment and investment opportunities along the cotton value chain
- Provide safety nets for the poor and vulnerable
- Revive sustainable organic market led commercial cotton production.
- Since its inception, Pamba Mali project has made initial steps in the following;
- For the first time in many years, farmers are able to grow cotton as cash crop and be guaranteed income. We hope to kick out poverty in subsequent years.
- Cotton is intercropped with a variety of grains, thereby ensuring food security. The seed can be made into animal feed. This has provided some level of food security.
- The initiative is women driven initiative, with the men being invited so that they can be support their wives participating.
- The young people are attracted to this initiative because of the fashion show excitement. They also volunteer in the cottonseed distribution. Cottage industries formed because of the initiative will soon be able to create steady employment.
